At J.S. Benson Woodworking & Design, we specialize in crafting high-end custom doors and windows tailored toward our clients' unique tastes. With over 30 years experience behind us, we can design custom windows and doors that replicate any desired historical period or architectural style. You'll find nothing mass-produced here. Everything we do is handcrafted to exacting standards for truly one-of-a-kind results.
We primarily work with sustainably harvested mahogany, but we'll also use other hardwoods if design specifications call for it. We've long been strong proponents of responsible forestry and eco-friendly manufacturing processes. That's why our LEED® credit eligible custom doors and windows are built using lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an organization devoted to preventing deforestation.

The Building – A slice of history
JS Benson Woodworking & Design employs nine craftsmen and three office workers in its 17,000-square foot building located in the historic Estey Organ Complex in Brattleboro, VT. The stone-and-timber building we inhabit looks much like it did when it produced reed and pipe organs but it has undergone many improvements that make it much more energy-efficient and comfortable. We've been in business since 1978 and in this location since 1989. We are a small company that has grown to over $1 million in sales per year.

All J.S. Benson Woodworking & Design products are produced with a mixture of old-time hand craftsmanship and advanced manufacturing technology. Although we use advanced computer-controlled equipment (some of which we developed ourselves) that allows us to routinely work to tolerances of 5/1000 of an inch, we have refused to adopt mass-production techniques. Among other things, we continue to employ traditional mortise and tenon joinery because of the beauty and long-lasting strength they add to our products.
